2.2
iii. Shiva’s mother advised Shiva that he must enjoy only
when he can afford it.
iv. Shiva’s father asked Shiva as to what was the salary of
his new job.
v. Helping the needy is something which is very important
because you never know what that blessed soul is capable of in his/her life.
Every human is a universe in himself/herself, everyone be it a financially
stable person to an absolutely needy person is capable of super success, is
capable of being the best version of success and manifesting success in any and
every form. We are all born with the same capabilities and the same
intellectual faculties that we can use to tap into the higher spirit and
manifest success. Some people are blessed to have a roof on top of their head
and for some the struggle starts from there to first earn a roof, get the bread
and then work on succeeding. I also believe that we must especially help those
that are not only in a dire need to change that circumstances of their life but
also who have a burning desire to make that change happen.
vi. We must be every grateful for all the good happening in
our life to begin with. In this case or cases similar to Shiva’s, its given
that the person will be grateful for everything that he/she has. Simply because
not everyone can get what this person got. Be grateful and let the universe
listen to it and the universe will response with abundant blessings.
vii. The story of Shiva is indeed inspiring. Every aspect of
his life, his journey rather is inspiring. Shiva has demonstrated that if there
is a will there is a way but you’ve got to work all the way. His hardworking
nature, working round the clock to make ends meet, persistence, never giving
up, never letting negativity put him down, looking at the brighter side of life
and not letting the current situation and circumstances put him down are all
the wonderful qualities the protagonist of this story, Shiva has demonstrated
that I have taken inspiration from.
viii. Shiva worked at the electronics repair shop to make
ends meet, he also continued his newspaper delivery stint to continue making
money and studied very hard for his CAT exams. Although he couldn’t attend the
classes he used the old CAT question papers and the notes of his classes to
prepare.
ix. Shiva is a hardworking kid who delivered newspapers to
make ends meet. Although he is a very talented kid, a genius in the real sense,
he faced hardships in life. His dad gathered flowers of which his mom would
make garlands and he and his sister would sell these garlands at odd places
like the traffic signals and corners of the road just so that they could put up
a meal on the table. Shiva is a bright student always scoring well in his exams
and in fact is the topper of his school every single time. It is rightly said
that luck is defined as ‘preparation meets opportunity’. Shiva noticed a man
washing his car and somehow his intuition told him to go and speak to that man
and convince him to support his education. Mr. Krishna definitely did support
Shiva after getting to know him. Shiva worked his way through an electric store
and a repair shop of his own on the roadside just to make sure he can earn
enough. Ultimately he got into IIM and later on went on to fetch a handsome
salary. Shiva’s life is set however, he plans to quit his job and focus on his
entrepreneurial skills and explore the wonders of life, count on his hard work
and see what life has to offer him for it has showered more than what he could
have asked for so far.
x. The man who helped and guided Shiva, Mr. Krishna
Vedavyasa is a well to do man and has his own family and his own
responsibilities. It takes a lot of courage, open-mindedness and most
importantly a lot of selflessness to do what Mr. Krishna did. Mr. Krishna has
been the guiding force in Shiva’s life, showing him the right direction at
every step and mentoring Shiva to all through his struggle period. In today’s
world where people monetize on every single opportunity they can lay their
hands on, mentoring and providing guidance are literally a business in today’s
time and providing financial assistance is a bonus for those hungry sharks.
xi. Shiva has been through an amazing journey. Almost like
rags to riches. He wants to be Mr. Vedavyasa to all those Shiva’s who are
hungry to change their lives for the better, improve their situation in life
and are fearless, dedicated, bold and ready to take on any endeavour to
accomplish their goals but also need a little push and guidance.

Seventh Assignment: Delivering Oral Presentation
Important not: All the students should note that your respective class English Teacher will assign you with the topics for your Presentations and necessary input required.
Eighth Assignment: Paragraph writing
Assignment No: 8 Paragraph Writing
Exercise:1The following sentences are about the weather and how to dress while touring Beijing, China. There is too much information here for one paragraph. Some of the sentences are specifically about the weather. Put the number of those sentences in the box below marked Weather. Other sentences are about how to dress while touring Beijing. Put the number of those sentences in the box below marked Dress. Each set of sentences has one that is general enough to be a topic sentence. Circle those two sentences.
Once you have identified the above sentences as to whether they are talking about weather or dress
and found the topic sentences, arrange the sentences in a logical order and write (on a separate sheet
of paper) a paragraph about each topic.
Weather Dress
1. ____ 1. ____
2. ____ 2. ____
3. ____ 3. ____
4. ____ 4. ____
5. ____ 5. ____
6. ____ 6. ____
1. Winter is freezing cold.
2. Autumn is best as the temperature is mild and the sun is out a lot.
3. Beijing's four seasons are distinctly recognizable.
4. In the warmer months, T-shirts and light pants or shorts are the best bet.
5. It is easy to dress for touring Beijing.
6. In the autumn, jeans and a sweater are usually fine.
7. For touring during the day, wear casual clothes.
8. Bring nice clothes for going out at night.
9. The temperature in spring is nice, too, but it is very dry and windy.
10. Summer can be unbearably hot.
11. In the colder months, it is wise to dress in layers; long underwear and jeans, shirt, sweater and
a down jacket.
Exercise:2
Each of the following paragraphs has a sentence that is irrelevant. Draw a line through that sentence.
Example:
There are many things you can do to help the earth’s environment. You can
recycle newspapers, clear plastic and aluminum cans. You can buy products
made from recycled paper. Also, you can purchase drinks in glass bottles or
aluminum cans instead of plastic containers. Glass and aluminum are easier
to recycle. I enjoy recycling.
Paragraph 1
Responsibility is an important part of being an adult. We should meet our obligations by
being reliable, accountable, and dependable. We should follow through on our promises. It is
important to be one time for appointments that we have agreed to. I am often late for my
appointments. Be someone your friends can count on. Students should do their homework on
time. By creating a habit of reliability, people around us will see us as responsible individuals.
Paragraph 2
Bird watching is a great hobby. Many birdwatchers began watching birds as children or
young people. Birds hold a fascination with many people because there are almost always birds
around to see. Butterflies are great to watch too. Birds are easy to learn to identify and fun to
watch. Backyard bird feeding is a good way to get started watching birds by bringing them to
your yard.
Exercise:3
Pick one of the topics below and write a topic sentence about it.
Things you like to do on Friday night
How you did for fun in high school or grade school
A memorable holiday
Next, you write at least 10 supporting sentences (on a separate sheet of paper/class notebook) about the topic. Don’t worry about proper capitalization, punctuation, and grammar at this point. Review the supporting sentences and make sure that they all support the main idea of the topic sentence. Cross out any sentences that do not support the main idea. Those sentences are irrelevant.
Finally, write a paragraph, using the topic sentence and relevant supporting sentences form above. Be sure to use correct capitalization, punctuation and article use.

Fourth Assignment
Idioms
An idiom is a phrase, or a combination of words, that has developed a figurative meaning through frequency of use. Idioms are often shared across languages through numerous translations. They can be useful and even fun to use, but are also bound to confuse any new speaker of a language who isn’t familiar with the phrase’s cultural relevance.
The following list of idioms will be in alphabetical order, with an explanation and contextual example provided for easier comprehension.
actions speak louder than words
- Definition: Refers to the idea that it’s better to do something than just talk about it.

a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush

- Example: “Someone offered me $100 to buy my old TV. I was hoping to sell it for $200, but I have a feeling this is the best offer I’ll get for a while, and I need that money now. A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, right?”
blessing in disguise
- Definition: Something good and beneficial that did not initially seem that way.

Personal Pronouns:
